Move to Philly

Shout out to the Daily News for publishing the three ad campaigns exhorting NYers to Move to Philly and D-Mac for bringing it to my attention. Seems as if some are taking offense to the ads. No wonder Phildelphians don't dig the ads - they're not the target audience.

As a native Philadelphian who served a seven year sentence on the island of Manhattan, I found the campaigns to be totally on point. Must be something to do with the fact that I actually lived in NYC and witnessed the demographic changes that these ads reference. Kinda like the only peeps sitting around thinking about how many wannabe Johnny Brenda bars there are in Brooklyn are exclusively found in Fishtown or "No-Libs," and not NYC. As if anyone in Brooklyn, other than the few Philly ex-pats who live there, has even heard of Johnny Brendas. No wonder these same low-fi poseurs don't get a kick out of these ads.

My favorite ad came from a campaign playing off the ubiquitous "I (heart) NY" t-shirt that every would-be manhattanite buys within three months of moving into their 400-sqft, $2100-per-month-financed-by-daddy, walk-up studio on the lower east side.
