St. Louis Press Rips Phillies Management!
It's no longer just the NYTimes that has it in for the ownership of the Phillies. St. Louis Game Time, a publication that can be purchased before all Cardinals home games at Busch stadium, yesterday joined the growing chorus of out-of-town press ripping the Phils for the Abreu trade.
St. Louis is supposed to be the anti-Philly. Fans there never boo. Thin-skinned baseball players like Scott Rolen extol the virtues of the positivity of St. Louis fans. ESPN, a bastion of Philly-bashers, routinely genuflects at the altar of the St. Louis Fan.
All this makes the following words so so sweet. When a guy who writes for an official magazine of a magazine distributed by the St. Louis Cardinals rips Phillies management, the teflonics cannot possibly hide behind the claim that all their problems can be traced to the cranks on 610 and Philadelphia's hyper-negative sports reporters.
Will Horton, columnist for Game Time, stated that the Phils ownership delivered a "gutpunch" to Phillies fans by trading Abreu to the Yanks.
Oh and he did not stop there. The guy advocates Phils fans go positively postal.
If I’m a Philly fan, I’m saying “Where’s Santa Claus? I’m going to boo his ass something fierce! I’m gonna put a battery in his brain! Not a watch battery, mind you, not a D-cell, a freakin’ Die Hard! I’m going out to my Durango and rip the (blankety blank) battery out of that no good piece of (blank) and plant it in the face of the next (blanking blank-hole) I see. Hell, we can use my wife’s car for a while, if we have to. It ought to get us back and forth to my arraignment, anyways. And, I’m canceling my season tickets! AGAIN!”
Either Phillies ownership is just that awful, or Philadelphia fans are just losing their edge.
I'm guessing the former.

FYI, it's not an official publication; those scout.com guys are crap.
Abreu was a holdover from the Ed Wade era that nobody in Philly really ever got behind because he played a lazy outfield and we werent sad to see him go.The new GM Gillick is getting a grace period from boo's mostly because we have a nice core of young players led by Ryan Howard.Gillick said the other day that we won't compete until 2008 probably and I think the town appreciates the honesty after the bs lines we were fed by Wade. Some guy in podunk Missouri giving Philly lessons on when to boo is laughable.
If you can't tell the difference between a blog and "an official publication of the St. Louis Cardinals" then you have more problems than deciding how to react to your GM's bad trades.
The website says the article appears in a magazine distributed at Busch stadium which happens to be private property. Far be it for me to assume that the Cardinals don't have a say in what is sold at their stadium.
And if unofficial merchandise is being sold at Busch Stadium, Cardinals management has got bigger problems than Phils management.
